American Northeast
Day One
After years of planning, we finally got to go on her fall color trip to New England. The night before was stressful, hoping Lois (Jolie’s Mom) did not get delayed in her flight to our house to watch the kids. Once they landed, Jolie picked them up at the airport at 9:30 pm, and we still had to finish up the final packing and preparation. We got up at 4:30 am to get through security for our 6:45 am flight. We flew through Salt Lake City, where we had a fun breakfast and a mimosa sampler.
Once in Boston, we took a taxi to the Hilton at Faneuil Hall. The photo below is just outside of the hotel. We ate dinner at the Bostonia Public House, and we were lucky to get in without a reservation.
After dinner, we crashed from the early and long day of travel.
We spent nine days in the American Northeast with stops in Boston, Burlington, Vermont, the White Mountain, and Bar Harbor, Maine.
Day Two
We spent the day walking all around Boston following the Freedom Trail and checking out the history and sights of Boston. Highlights include the Massachusetts State House, Park Street Church, Granary Burying Ground, the Old State House, the Old North Church and Paul Revere’s Statue, the USS Constitution and Bunker Hill Monument.
Day Three
Today was all about the Tea. We had tea at the Bar Harbor hotel and then enjoyed the Boston Tea Party museum.
Day Four
On the fourth day we picked up our rental car and drove to Burlington, Vermont. This was a pretty drive and we visited a couple of the covered bridges in the area.
Day Five
It was really rainy in Burlington today, so we ended up just spending the day shopping at the church street shops. We also visited Tony's Train Exchange which is not really a storefront, but they were nice enough. Other than that we just hung around and lounged all day.
Day Six
We spent day six driving around Lake Champlain all the way into New York, hoping to find some cute shops and fall colors. Sadly, the trip lacked both. It was still a great drive, the lake is beautiful. However, the fall colors were not at peak here, and everything was buttoned up for the season.
Day Seven
We drove from Burlington, Vermont to Bar Harbor, Maine. We stopped at Mount Washington in the white mountains of New Hampshire. This was a really fun place, we rode the cog railway to the top and checked out the visitor center and sights at the top. This area is where the fall colors picked up and made the trip amazing. This portion of the trip in New Hampshire and Maine we hit peak fall colors, which was lucky.
Day Eight
We were supposed to take a lighthouse boat tour out of Bar Harbor and around the area, which got canceled due to a storm in the Atlantic Ocean. So we spent the day shopping and all the cute shops in Bar Harbor, and we actually timed low tide at 3:30 PM and hiked out to Bar Island over the sandbar which Bar Harbor got its name from.
Day Nine
Acadia National Park
Today was all about Acadia National Park. This was our favorite day, we spent the day driving the primary loop on the coast where the breakers are with the thunderhole. We visited the Jordan Pond House and hiked around the lake with amazing fall colors and we drove to the top of Cadillac Mountain and overlooked the entire area. What an amazing place we would love to go back.
